This museum is situated in a brilliant position, on a steep hill overlooking the town. The building was originally the home of a former Venetian merchant, and later became the residence of Oso Kuka, then turned to be a historic museum since 1947. The building is surrounded by fortified walls, which makes it a typical Venetian merchant’s home.
The Historical Museum has culturally and historically significant artifacts. The exhibits include a typically ornate guest rooms, and a basement with a small archeology exhibition featuring an early Christian Plate of David, and artifacts from the Byzantine era, Ottoman times, and right up to Enver Hoxha’s oppressive regime. In the garden you’ll also find a Roman tomb and a Venetian stone well
