The Illyrian city of Amantia was an ancient city and the main settlement of the Amantes, located in southern Illyria in classical antiquity. Nowadays is one of the largest archaeological parks in the country and a testimony to the rich ancient history of the Ionian coast. What makes this particular park unique is its semblance of being not entirely discovered.
Amantia occupied an important defensive position above the Aoos/Vjosë river valley to the east, and on the road to the coast and the Bay of Aulon. At the archaeological site of Ploçë, a temple dedicated to Aphrodite, a theater, and a stadium have also been found
Surrounded by hills and far removed from contemporary architecture or billboards, takes you back in time to the ancient ages.
