Albanian habits
1. In Albania, nodding your head means “no” and shaking your head means “yes,” which is opposite of the rest of the world
2. A daily Albanian tradition called “Xhero” involves walking to natural areas to watch the sunset and enjoy ice cream or popcorn.
3.The concept of “PESA” (honor code) is used as a symbol of honor, protection, faith, trust, hospitality, and respect for guests.
Social life
Despite the communist regime’s ban on Albanian people hosting any foreigners in their homes for 50 years, they have an ancient tradition of hospitality that gives the guest the right to become a deity in Albanian homes.
Marriage was often traditionally, and the birth of girls was considered bad luck. Women also suffered greatly from customs and traditions.
However, all of this has changed now.
Music and dance
The origins of traditional Albanian music can be traced back to the 13th century.
There are traces of musical instruments, dances, clothing, and singers.
Traditional songs are divided into songs for weddings, nature, love, and songs about historical myths.
traditional clothes
Clothing are closely linked to religion, history, resistance, and the efforts of the people to defend their identity.
They are often handmade. Traditional clothing, especially for the bride and groom, includes special symbols such as the eagle and the sun.
The famous Albanian skirt (fustanella) was the official dress for men in the 13th century in the south, while in the north, men wore white woolen trousers decorated with black stripes on the sides. Women’s clothing was made of black wool in a sun-like shape.
